Our Story

On February 27, 1997, before Greater Divine Missionary B.C. was organized, a few humble Saints  desiring to yield their lives in obedience to God, met at the New Light B.C.  Seeing our dedication and willing Spirit, Rev. H.B. Williams met and prayed with us.  Those present were:  Rev. Byron Clay, the late Sister Mamie Chambers, Brother and Sister Ben and Linda Norwood, Brother and Sister Lindsey and Deloris Patton and Sister Evelyn Haynes.
The Greater Divine Missionary Baptist Church was chartered on March 3, 1997 and adopted the motto, “The Church Where Love Abides.”  Our worship services were held at New Light B.C. from March 1997 until January 1998.  The first officers were:  Bro. Ben Norwood and  Lindsey Patton, Deacons;  Sis. Vera Ford and the late Sis. Mamie Chambers, Deaconess.  Sis. Shante’ Gibbs, Secretary;  Sis. Renee Jones, Clerk.  The late Sis. Lucille Rogers, Usher Board President;  Sis. Fannie Matthews,  Sunday School Superintendent and Bro. Warren West, Sr., Director of the Baptist Training Union.

We remained steadfast and God added to the church.   In August 1997, trusting in God and walking by faith, the church purchased the land on this present site.  On December 22, 1997, the church secured a loan and started construction.  In January 1998, Ebenezer B.C. opened their doors to us until our church was completed  in September of 1998.
 
After three years of faithful service, Pastor Clay moved on and in June 2002, we didn’t give up.  We prayed, kept the faith and continued our regular scheduled worship services.     After a diligent search, we received a blessing from Heaven.   Rev. Dr. Louis M. Russell, Jr.  was installed as our Pastor on August 14, 2005.
 
The Ministries of the church continued to grow. In 2016, a Brotherhood Ministry added to inspire, instruct and engage the men of Greater Divine and the community. Pastor Russell's passion for Christian education, increased the teaching ministry and established a Director of Christian Education. Bro. Lindsey Patton was selected to lead that effort.
 
Under the leadership of Pastor Russell, our church is growing spiritually.   We are a supernatural church, composed of supernatural  people, doing supernatural  things.  We Exalt, the Savior;  Equip the Saints,  Evangelize the Sinners and Impact our Surroundings…  and we give  GLORY, HONOR and PRAISE for where God has brought us from and where  HE is taking us to.
